Biography
Tamás Fleisz(b. 1992, Szeged)
Stone carving has become a central part of my creative activity, for me the quality ofthe material contributes to the expressive power of the artwork. I strive to create aunique form, combining figurative and geometric elements. In my animus series, I examine the similarity in shape between prehistoric Venusesand the brains of various vertebrates with bilateral symmetry. It was an exciting realization for me how much the brains of certain fish, amphibians and reptilesresemble the shape of prehistoric Venus figures. With my “Animus” sculptures, I try todisplay this association, creating a kind of stone idols. My goal is to follow thisconcept and create an archetypal “neural chassis” that, stripped of the intricateclothing of the limbic system and neocortex, stands before us as a naked, ancientVenus – combining organic and geometric forms, as a column, like a pseudo-idol ofsome bygone era.
Education
2011 – 2016 University of Pécs Faculty of Music and Arts, Sculptor BA+MA
