Biography
“For a long time I have been thinking about creating a new, more personal series of figurative objects, which would be a transition between my ballpoint pen paintings and my sculptural works. I increasingly felt that as a sculptor I wanted to step out of the plane of the wall again, but at the same time I wanted to connect with my earlier work. This led me to the creation of my sculpture Geometric Selfie, a precursor to my latest planned series.
I saw the potential of narrative storytelling in figurativity and began to think not just in terms of forms, but in terms of complex large-scale scenes in which personal stories emerge.
In addition to geometric shapes, I became increasingly interested in the tiny inaccuracies of the human factor. My series of graphics entitled Calm down is also related to this theme. In these ballpoint pen drawings, I depict simple or more complex geometric shapes using freehand drawing, so that what at first glance appear to be regular shapes can be seen as tiny imperfections that are created by a kind of controlled chance while drawing. The occasional repetition of hand gestures during the meticulous elaboration involves a process of meditation, which I now try to apply consciously.
In my series of sculptures entitled +;-, it is clear to see that I am primarily concerned with constructive from-making. From simple elemental sorting to more complex mathematical and geometric derivation, I have used a variety of methods.I remove the imperfections the steppedness, the pixelatedness of the assembled from by hand, creating a new, complex form in which the original module is barely recognizable, but the new form dominates, but the system by which the derivation of the form, the method of form-making, can be coded, can still be observed closely. Thus, as in the Calm series, a detailed observation of these sculptures provides an insight into the process of making.”
