Biography

Dr. Ferenc Lantos is a Kossuth Award Winning artist and academic. He was born in Pécs on February 20, 1929 to György Lantos and Georgina Lukits. He married Mária Vecsey in 1953. They have 3 children, Gábor (1954), Éva (1954) and Tamás (1956). He died on December 20, 2014.Ferenc Lantos has created a lasting legacy both as an artist and a teacher. He  stubbornly led his own way, often facing society’s headwinds. He was always striving for new discoveries and experiments as a painter and a creator of public enamel friezes, enamel advertising signs, unique and printed graphics, and  a designer of ceramic ornaments. He created didactic methods and pioneered the way for artists of future generations.In 1959 he founded the department of visual arts at the Secondary School of Arts in Pécs, in 1968 Pécsi Műhely (Workshop of Pécs), a visual art workshop for Neo-Avant-Garde artists; in 1985 the school of art at Apáczai Központ; in 1992 the open school of arts at Apáczai Központ. Member of the Hungarian Academy of Arts since 2000. He had 50 solo and 150 collective exhibitions.
