Viktória Maróti
Keramikus művész / Ceramic artist
Biography
VIKTÓRIA
MARÓTI is a young ceramic artist and designer based in
Budapest, born in 1990
Szeged, Hungary.
“Since 2015, I have been creating illusionary objects from the symbiosis of textiles and porcelain, which deceive the viewer when perceived. After firing, the fusion of the two materials results in the birth of a hybrid object that serves as evidence of the free interchangeability between the media. In the new quality that emerges, we discover a contrast, since it includes associations of soft and hard. I started experimenting with the technology I use during my university years, which is renewed year after year thanks to my systematic creative work. Pushing the boundaries between materials and questioning the stereotypes associated with them are fundamental principles in my work.”
She graduated in ceramic design at MOMA and started her PhD at PTE in 2023. In 2024 she won first prize at the National Ceramic Art Triennial in Pécs, in 2019 she won first prize at the Concours Jeune Céramique Européenne in France and was awarded the Special Jury Prize at hte Blanc De Chine International Ceramic Art Award Competition in CHina, She was awarded the Lajos Kozma Craftsmanship twice in a row. His works are housed in several international and national public collections.
In her work, she experiments with eclectic materials such as textiles, concrete, ropes and various techniques in combination with porcelain. In the process, she questions the strength of materials and pushes them to their limits. Her sculptures and their contradictory textures pose questions while playing with the senses of the viewer."
